On 30 April 2026, Legal Notice 144 of 2026, the Minimum Special Leave Entitlement (Amendment) Regulations (“Regulations”), was published and with effect from the end of June 2026, both bereavement leave and marriage leave entitlements will increase to three working days for all sectors of employment. This replaces any lesser entitlements previously provided for in sectorial Wage Regulation Orders.
Bereavement Leave
Bereavement leave is granted without loss of wages on the death of:
- a spouse
- a parent
- a son or daughter
- a brother or sister
- a person who has, or previously had, legal custody of the employee
- a person who is in the legal custody of the employee
Marriage Leave
Marriage leave is granted without loss of wages to an employee on the occasion of marriage.
