19/02/2025

“Today and every day. Because a woman’s place is truly, wherever she wants it to be. Be that standing up in Parliament, heading a company or leading a nation to prosperity,” Roberta Metsola

The EU Directive on Equal Pay was done in Strasburg, 10th May 2023, signed by Malta-grown Roberta Metsola, President for the European Parliament.

The Directive is one of several initiatives of the EU geared towards combatting discrimination at the at the workplace and narrowing that teething gender pay gap.

Other initiatives include :

  • The Gender Balance on Corporate Boards Directive which entered into application in late 2024, aiming for a more balanced gender representation on the boards of listed companies across all EU Member States, setting a target for EU large listed companies of 40% of the underrepresented sex among their non-executive directors and 33% among all directors. Companies must meet the targets by 30 June 2026.
  • The Work-Life Balance Directive which introduced improved measures on paternity leave, parental leave, carer’s leave, and the right of working parents and carers to request flexible working arrangements.
