NEW: Medical Online Portal for TCNs
Malta has introduced a new online health screen system for third country nationals applying for work permits in Malta. All health screening applications for work permits must be submitted through the dedicated online system, with paper-based applications no longer being accepted by the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Unit (IDCU).
Under the new procedure, employers or their HR representatives must initiate the application via the online portal, which submission must be made prior to the employee attending the medical screening appointment. On completion of the online submission, the employer will be provided with an approved list of doctors who may carry out the required medical checks.
NEW: Health screening for all TCNs
Health screening is now mandatory for all TCNs, irrespective of the position held and whether they previously resided in a high-risk tuberculosis country or not.
Health screening may also be required on renewal of work permit applications, generally this would be required for the first renewal period. In certain cases, health screening may need to be carried out beyond the first 2 years.
In certain instances, medical screening may also be required for Change in Employer Applications, particularly where the employee has not been in Malta for a period of at least 2 years and changes their line of work.
